Bartlett park – Limehouse
An early self building housing scheme designed and project constructionmanaged (with support for the self build group and integral part of our service) by our senior partner. The scheme, 34 houses of varying size and configuration, were developed in conjunction with the self builders to provide for individual family units. The design retained an external homogeneity with a family of details and materialsand achieved high density levels that made good use of available land. Tower Hamlets, who supported the project, released a strip of parkland around a church (St. Saviours) as its counterpoint, for the development. Near and distant viewpoints were an important consideration in the configuration of built form to achieve a hierarchy of scale and housing cluster around courtyards and pedestrian access routes within the parkland setting. The Arcadia enclave remains a strong community-xxx largely inhabited by those who we assisted in its building several decades ago.
