Lingfield Gardens – East Grinstead

A large sprawling garden centre set within the green belt l demanded particular attention to detail to promote redevelopment. Multiple masterplan options for residential use were devised by the practice and presented in lengthy negotiations with the local authority to ensure both a viable density and sensitive, low rise design.  Consent achieved for a mix of traditional detached houses in generous plots with additional pocket parkland configured as shared amenity space centre site.  The central parkland acted as a focal point that acted to visually lessen density and provide a green setting. Extensive contextual studies in support of the design, use of materials and detailing, referenced villages in the locality.  The proposals long term would also offer sustainable environmental improvements.
