Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield

Putting back the heart into Mere Green, a proposal developed for extending and formalising the town centre developed for our client in consultation with the trustees who were looking to partner with a developer to bring the project forward. The site lies adjacent local conservation areas made up of a mix of high value heritage and listed buildings individually built in the 19^thcentury. The town centre trustees set out a brief requiring traditional design sympathetic to Sutton Coldfield’s tradition of Arts and Crafts and referencing the pre-war movement of architectural design as it related to the history of Sutton Coldfield. Extensive townscape studies helped form our ideas. Birmingham City planning and conservation officers offered support during pre-application and design development process. Land value underbidding halted progressing the project.
