A backlands development with an existing entrance driveway offered a great opportunity to build a low profile contemporary house on the site of former garages. The light filled interiors planned over ground and the same plan footprint created at basement levels open out onto a series of garden spaces. Large lightwells and double height space linking living spaces, stairs and hallway ensure visual and physical connectivity, and a feeling of openness. A limited palette of timber and glazed/louvred elevations contribute to the low profile building and discrete setting.
